Curiosity Gin

Begun in 2015 by four whisky loving mates and colleagues, The Spirits Workshop’s journey has been to create celebrated craft spirits that are distinctly New Zealand. They see sharing the knowledge and stories behind their craft as a way to enhance their enjoyment and fundamental to their business.

One of their core drives is curiosity, hence the name of
their gin, as they seek to produce unique and delightful spirits. They don’t want to make gin that is subsumed by tonic but instead has personality and flavour that makes it stand out from the crowd. A key way in which they achieve this is being “grain-to-glass” where possible, including the production of their own single malt base spirit from Canterbury barley. Mashed, fermented, and distilled in-house, it is slightly sweeter and has a residual malt flavour that adds complexity and fullness of flavour.

All of their gins are made in small batches using steeped whole botanicals in a 500L hybrid still, though their original 50L copper pot still named Yoyo is also still in action. They also fundraise for various causes each year with bespoke gins and their annual Rainbow Ruby Gin.
